Toby, come!

(December 24, 2008) We met my sister and sister-in-law's new dog today. He's a young border collie that they adopted from the shelter about 6 months ago. He's coming in to make sure his flock of humans is wandering in the right direction.
• Inbetween

(Dec. 31, 2008) Goodbye to 2008, hello to 2009. Happy New Year's eve!
  • Yucking it up

(Dec. 30, 2008) The joke's on me. This was taken at quite a distance and when I mistook this as a sign of ease, I moved closer. He waited until I was in ideal shooting range and flew away. It's humbling to be the butt of a joke for an egret.

(Dec. 29, 2008) Taken on Christmas day but downloaded today. This is the Prescott Public Library Lizard, relatively recently installed. Pretty dang cool. The artist is
Heather Johnson Beary. Read more about it in these two blogs:
http://www.tonyreynolds.com/blog/?p=177
http://walkingprescott.blogspot.com/2008/07/unveiling-of-library-horny-toad.html

I'll have to go back when the weather is better to take a better photo of the puma that sits above the Library Lizard.
  • Quick glimpse

(Dec. 28, 2008) I seem to be on a "hidden-in-the-brush" kick. I am guessing this is a female Lesser Goldfinch but am willing to stand corrected.
  • Spotted

(Dec. 27, 2008) We saw each other at almost the same moment . . . and then she was gone:
http://chaosgraphics.smugmug.com/gallery/1367522_g2b3u#443980028_pwFYn
  • A little morning sun

(Dec. 26, 2008) Shot out the window near Yarnell as we sped by. Last night was abyssmally cold and windy and wet, so I'm sure these horses were enjoying a little sun bath. Jim's not a stopper or even slow-down-so-I-can-take-a-shot kind of driver. Thus we missed the shot of the hawks or the javelina with two tiny javalina. However, we made it home swiftly and safely, and I have a lot of shots of the road stretching away from us into the desert or as he puts it, into Bumf***, Egypt. I think Egypt would be a lot more interesting than the California desert after Blythe.
  • Cool Cat

(Dec. 25, 2008) Sometimes when the Prescott Public Library is closed, the local wildlife sneaks in to take a look. This puma is part of the Mural Beyond Words - Prescott Downtown Mural Project. Read more about the mural and the Mural Mice on pages 8-9 of the current (Winter 2008/09) issue of The Roundup and in this article on the dedicated Mural Mice. Chapter 1 of the Mural Beyond Words is 80% complete. It will be finished when warm weather returns in the spring. Chapter 2 depends on future funding to come.

A few more photos of the mural are here.

  • Arizona Outback

(Dec. 23, 2008) This is coming out of the Outback and headed into the mountains . . . where it is very cold for us lowlanders! I'm having a little trouble with the wireless network, so viewing and posting may be spotty. Have a great Christmas everybody!
  • Canadian bombers

(Dec. 22, 2008) We're headed east tomorrow to Arizona for Christmas. I'll catch up with the dp community when I can.
  • Good grief

(Dec. 21, 2008) Does this remind anyone of the Grinch's dog, Max? This is the second year I've tried to get a shot of a danedeer with poor Gus, and I think I have to admit it will never work.
  • Welcome to the desert

(Dec. 20, 2008) Shot out the window from the freeway. We went to visit Jim's folks in the high desert and found Joshua trees with snow. Welcome to the desert and welcome to global climate change.
  • Mouths

(Dec. 19, 2008) All the different things a mouth can do and express. The UCR staff assembly holiday party was held in one of the residence halls for the students, and the stage had a huge promo of the new movie, "Australia," on it. So the background was a little distracting for some shots or, in this case, amusing. Btw, the woman in this shot was competing for the celebrity look-alike contest as Yoko Ono. She showed a better sense of humour and I think that cost her in the competition. She came in third.
  • What's that white stuff?

(Dec. 18, 2008) Just a documentary shot for today -- snow in the Box Springs Mountains! That never happens . . . except when it does.
  • Into a headwind

(Dec. 17, 2008) No shooting today, so this is a photo from October that I liked for the old fashioned realism of the ornament.
  • Home hazard

(Dec. 16, 2008) The kitchen doorway can be hazardous. Can you tell that Gus has been nailed a few times walking by that chair?
  • Last call for alcohol

(Dec. 15, 2008) Aaaaaahhhhh. A little medicinal shot for an achy knee, to be applied from the inside out.
  • For the birds

(Dec. 14, 2008) Sunday afternoon at Fairmount Park
  • Don't let the cat out of the bag

(Dec. 13, 2008) It's liable to be dangerous for all involved, particularly the photographer.
  • C'mon in, the water's fine!

(Dec. 12, 2008) My ID is White-faced Ibis in the front. I'm still processing shots from the San Jacinto Wildlife Refuge.

Beautiful dog, not that I'm at all partial to black and white dogs, and Border Collies ;). He really is a good looking boy, and how lucky for him to have found a good home. So many don't.

He does look like he takes his job of herding the humans very seriously. :-)

    Lovely shot!
