(Dec. 11, 2009) We brought Gracey home from the Riverside Humane Society a few hours ago. So far, she's a little bewildered, but has been exceedingly good. She uses the dog door, is intimidated by Gypsy Rose, and is friendly, cuddly, but calm. She has latched on to the dog bed as a good thing and doesn't want to leave it. Wait till she finds out about the great dane orthopedic bed in the bedroom!

  • Meet Gracey<br /> <br /> (Dec. 11, 2009) We brought Gracey home from the Riverside Humane Society a few hours ago. So far, she's a little bewildered, but has been exceedingly good.   • Pick me, pick me!<br /> <br /> (Dec. 10, 2009) This little rock wren really wanted its photo taken.
  • Don't trust ya' as far as I can throw ya'<br /> <br /> (Dec. 9, 2009) Another night of testing and another student did well. This is a throw off of a wrist/arm lock technique. Don't be fooled by the braid. The person being thrown is a second degree black belt, a Tai Chi instructor, and tough as nails.
  • Twofer<br /> <br /> (Dec. 8, 2009) I went to shoot one heron and got a second one for free: Great Blue Heron and Black Capped Night-Heron at Rancho Jurupa Park.

  • Hey, stop teasin' the cat!<br /> <br /> (Dec. 3, 2009) We got a bird bath last weekend and it's already a big hit, both for the water and the view.
  • Bokken take-away<br /> <br /> (Dec. 2, 2009) We had a 4th kyu test today in Aikido. Two students tested and passed -- and did very well. This is a technique to take a weapon away. In this case, it's a practice sword, but it could be a baseball bat or another blunt instrument.<br /> <br /> The flash worked well but took forever to recharge inbetween shots.
  • Allies, and still a little cranky<br /> <br /> (Dec. 1, 2009) This will be the last of the Gypsy Rose shots for a little while. I think I've used up my quota of goodwill in the house.
  • Annoyed, about to go nuclear<br /> <br /> (Nov. 30, 2009) No photos during the day, so I focused on Gypsy again to practice with the flash (using Jim as the prop man). The result was a very annoyed cat and a slightly annoyed husband, but I'm liking these settings for the flash.

  • Galloping down memory lane<br /> <br /> (Nov. 28, 2009) I found this old photo of my first horse and me and thought I better scan it before it fades away. If this looks like I was in control, I wasn't. It was essentially a child on a runaway pony going over jumps along the way.
  • Feeling a little prickly today<br /> <br /> (Nov. 27, 2009) The warm weather has confused the cacti around here.
  • You can see the wheels turning . . . .<br /> <br /> (Nov. 26, 2009) It's Thanksgiving and we're giving thanks that Gypsy's back up to her old tricks.
  • Seed bank<br /> <br /> (Nov. 25, 2009) Agave inflorescence about to pop. These are the stalks and buds of a century plant - they look like they come from another planet.
  • America's Horse<br /> <br /> (Nov. 24, 2009) Marine Corps Mounted Color Guard, mounted on mustangs. As composed as this horse looks here, this was about it for good behavior for the night. The audience very nearly got a pre-rodeo show during the flag ceremony.     Welcome to Gracey.. what a sweet pup... She has a real treat in store with the 'special' bed! How fortunate for all of you to have found eachother! You have such a great sharp pic of her. Is she full grown?...Looks like you handled your 'flash' very well here. I struggled today at the Help_Portrait event with me flash. I think what I need is lots and lots of practice..lighting is always the key, but flash offers so many options and angles it really is much harder than 'available' lighting. We will work on this together for the New Year Andrea!
