Andrea Kaus (ChaosGraphics) > What on earth are you?

(Nov. 1, 2009) The extreme cowboy racers had a "Bring Your Own Obstacle" practice day today. Somebody brought a baby dragon as an obstacle, and it did freak out many of the horses.
Andrea Kaus (ChaosGraphics) > Ol' Jack

(Oct. 31, 2009) It was my turn to carve the pumpkin this year, so I went for the classic jackolantern.
Andrea Kaus (ChaosGraphics) > Look but don't touch

(Oct. 30, 2009) I haven't done a spikey shot for a while, and this cactus looked so cheerful.
Andrea Kaus (ChaosGraphics) > Mimic

(Oct. 29, 2009) Red-shafted flicker, female, and male house finch striking a pose.
Andrea Kaus (ChaosGraphics) > High fall

(October 28, 2009) I'm practicing with a new flash. I still need to work on the settings, but this is a definite improvement from yesterday's attempts. Thanks, Gene. Now I just need to figure out which way to adjust the zoom and EC on the flash - up, down, sideways?
Andrea Kaus (ChaosGraphics) > Red-shouldered Hawk?

(October 27, 2009) Taken at the UCR Botanic Gardens. I've seen hawks with these markings just this year. They are about the same size as the Cooper's Hawks, maybe a bit bigger.
Andrea Kaus (ChaosGraphics) > Home stretch

(Oct. 26, 2009) Free ride section. I just liked the feel of this shot.
Andrea Kaus (ChaosGraphics) > Vaquero Days Vaqueros

(Oct. 25, 2009) In truth, these are team ropers watching the team roping.
Andrea Kaus (ChaosGraphics) > Boy Scout at heart

(Oct. 24, 2009) Jim build a fire pit right by our patio yesterday, and we agree that he loves it and I don't. The house smells like smoke and the smoke detector went off several times.
Andrea Kaus (ChaosGraphics) > Surf's up

(Oct. 24, 2009) Thanks for all the comments on yesterday's post. I will be AWOL from the dp community for a little while until I get all the Extreme Cowboy Race shots up. This shot is of David Rivera again, on a different horse.
Andrea Kaus (ChaosGraphics) > Pretty Stickery

(October 22, 2009) There were some distractions during the extreme cowboy race last weekend. I took this during one of the course walk throughs.
Andrea Kaus (ChaosGraphics) > With a bit of room to spare

(Oct. 21, 2009) This horse was taking no chances about clearing the logs, another well-known source of trolls for horses.
Andrea Kaus (ChaosGraphics) > Cool cat

(October 20, 2009) Gypsy is supposedly cooled down enough now, radioactivitywise, to go outside. So today she got her yard and life back. She wore herself out and is now crashed on the couch.
Andrea Kaus (ChaosGraphics) > Absolute focus

(October 19, 2009) This is the winner of the non-pro division and overall winner too.

I am quoting Becky Joiner here, who filled in the background for me in the comment section below: "This is David Rivera and he won the Vaquero Days race in 2008 also. He is a 7th generation Californio so this was a great honor for him to win it again this year ! He worked very hard to achieve this goal. Badger is his horse and he is 18 years young as you can see in his pictures they have an enormous bond between them and that is achieved from hours and hours spent together."

All I can say is that it was a joy to watch all the competitors work with their horses through each course. Each ride was a demonstration of a true partnership.
Andrea Kaus (ChaosGraphics) > The Great Tarp Monster strikes again

(October 18, 2009) After the event, one of the organizers schooled a horse over a tarp that had been part of one of the obstacles. Most horses think tarps only cover trolls, and this was no exception.

If you are interested in the Extreme Cowboy Race event, tomorrow I will start posting the event shots in several separate galleries.
What on earth are you?

(Nov. 1, 2009) The extreme cowboy racers had a "Bring Your Own Obstacle" practice day today. Somebody brought a baby dragon as an obstacle, and it did freak out many of the horses.
